Skin growths are common, and many are harmless. However, some moles or skin changes may require medical assessment before removal is considered. For this reason, it is important to have moles, skin tags, and other skin growths reviewed by a medically trained professional in a safe, clinical setting.

Moles (Nevi) are a common type of growth on the skin. They often appear as small, dark brown spots and are caused by clusters of pigmented cells. Moles generally appear during childhood and adolescence. Most people have 10 to 45 moles, almost all of which appear before age 40. Some moles may fade or disappear as you age.

Most moles are harmless. Rarely, they become cancerous. Monitoring moles and other pigmented patches is an important step in detecting skin cancer, especially malignant melanoma.

Skin Tags , also known as acrochordons, are common benign skin growths that often look like small, soft, balloon-like pieces of hanging skin. Skin tags are harmless growths that can vary in number from one to hundreds. Males and females are equally prone to developing skin tags. Although some skin tags may fall off spontaneously, most persist once formed.

Many people choose to have skin tags removed for cosmetic reasons or because they catch on clothing, jewellery, or shaving equipment and become bothersome.

Seborrheic keratosis are one of the most common noncancerous skin growths in older adults.

They usually appear as a brown, black or light tan growth on the face, chest, shoulders or back. If you touch them, they feel waxy, scaly and ave a slightly elevated appearance. Seborrheic keratoses don't become cancerous and aren't thought to be related to sun exposure, but they can look like skin cancer.

Seborrheic keratoses are normally painless and require no treatment. You may decide to have them removed if they become irritated by clothing or for cosmetic reasons.

Your visit begins with an assessment of the mole, skin tag, or seborrheic keratosis you would like reviewed. Dr. McDonald will examine the area, discuss your concern, and determine whether the lesion appears suitable for treatment at Laser Aesthetics.

If removal is appropriate, your treatment options and next steps will be explained clearly. If the lesion requires further medical evaluation before treatment, you will be advised accordingly.

Not every mole or skin growth is suitable for removal at a cosmetic medical clinic. If a mole has changed in size, shape, colour, texture, or appearance, or if there are signs that further investigation may be needed, Dr. McDonald may recommend additional medical assessment before removal is considered.

Laser Aesthetics does not remove facial moles or lesions that require further medical investigation before treatment.
