Medical Skin Growth Assessment for Ancaster Clients

Skin growths such as moles, skin tags, and seborrheic keratoses are very common. Many are harmless and may be removed for cosmetic reasons, comfort, or irritation from clothing and jewelry. However, some skin lesions should be medically assessed before removal to rule out potential concerns.

At Laser Aesthetics, Dr. McDonald provides professional evaluation and treatment planning for a variety of benign skin growths. During your appointment, she will examine the lesion, discuss your concerns, explain your available options, and recommend a treatment approach based on the type, size, location, and appearance of the growth.

Medical Expertise You Can Trust

Skin growths are common, but their diagnosis is not always simple. Some are purely cosmetic, while others may require medical assessment to rule out potential concerns.

  • Safety First: We strictly advise our Ancaster community to avoid at-home "DIY" kits or spa treatments for moles. Dr. McDonald ensures all procedures meet high clinical safety standards.
  • Medical Oversight: As a physician-led clinic, every growth is evaluated by a doctor prior to removal to ensure your long-term health is the priority.
  • Efficiency: Avoid the long wait times often associated with hospital-based dermatology referrals. Laser Aesthetics offers prompt, convenient scheduling for Ancaster and Hamilton-area clients.

Mole Removal in Ancaster

Mole Removal Clinic Near AncasterMoles, also known as nevi, are common skin growths that often appear as small brown or dark spots. They are caused by clusters of pigmented cells and commonly develop during childhood and adolescence. Most people have multiple moles, and many remain harmless throughout life.

Although most moles are benign, it is important to monitor them for changes. A mole should be assessed if it changes in size, shape, colour, or texture, or if it begins to bleed, crust, itch, or become painful. New or changing pigmented lesions should be examined before cosmetic removal is considered.

Dr. McDonald provides mole assessments and selected mole removal services for patients from Ancaster at Laser Aesthetics in Burlington. If a mole has concerning features, she may recommend further medical evaluation instead of removal.

Skin Tag Removal in Ancaster

Skin Tag Removal Clinic Near AncasterSkin tags, also known as acrochordons, are small, soft, benign growths that often appear on areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing. They may develop on the neck, underarms, chest, back, eyelids, groin area, or beneath the breasts.

Skin tags are harmless, but many people choose to have them removed because they catch on clothing, jewelry, or razors, or because they are cosmetically bothersome. Some people may have only one or two skin tags, while others develop many over time.

Dr. McDonald offers safe, medically supervised skin tag removal for clients from Ancaster and nearby communities. During your consultation, she will assess the skin tags and recommend an appropriate removal method based on their number, size, and location.

Seborrheic Keratoses Removal in Ancaster

Seborrheic keratosis Removal Clinic Near AncasterSeborrheic keratoses are common noncancerous skin growths that often develop in adults as they age. They may appear brown, black, tan, or skin-coloured and can have a waxy, scaly, or slightly raised appearance.

These growths are sometimes called “granny warts,” although they are not true warts. Seborrheic keratoses do not become cancerous, but they can sometimes resemble other types of skin lesions, which is why assessment is important before removal.

Many people choose to have seborrheic keratoses removed if they become irritated by clothing, feel rough or bothersome, or are cosmetically unwanted. Dr. McDonald can assess the growth and recommend whether removal is appropriate.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

Your appointment begins with a consultation and skin assessment by Dr. McDonald. She will review the growth, ask about any changes or symptoms, and determine whether the lesion appears suitable for removal in the clinic.

Depending on the type of skin growth, treatment may be completed during the same appointment or scheduled separately. Dr. McDonald will explain the procedure, expected healing process, possible risks, and aftercare instructions before treatment.

After removal, you will receive guidance on how to care for the area as it heals. This may include keeping the area clean, avoiding irritation, and monitoring for signs of infection or unusual changes.

Important Notes About Mole Removal

Moles should never be removed without proper medical assessment. While many moles are harmless, some pigmented lesions may require further evaluation before any removal is performed.

Laser Aesthetics does not remove facial moles. If you have a mole on the face or a mole with concerning changes, Dr. McDonald can advise whether additional medical evaluation or referral may be appropriate.

You should have a mole assessed if it:

  • Changes in size, shape, colour, or texture
  • Becomes itchy, painful, crusted, or irritated
  • Starts bleeding or does not heal properly
  • Looks different from your other moles
  • Appears suddenly or changes quickly

If you are unsure whether a mole should be removed, a consultation is the safest first step.

Frequently Asked Questions for Ancaster Clients

Q: How long does the actual removal procedure take?

A: Most mole, skin tag, or keratosis removals are surprisingly quick, typically taking 15–30 minutes. You should plan for about one hour for your total visit, which includes your medical consultation with Dr. McDonald, local anesthesia (if required), and detailed aftercare instructions.

Q: What is the recovery time after the procedure?

A: There is minimal downtime. Most patients return to their daily routine immediately. The treated area will form a small scab that typically heals and falls off naturally within 7–14 days. We provide specific instructions to ensure the site heals with minimal visible marking.

Q: Why should I drive from Ancaster to Burlington instead of waiting for a local specialist?

A: Local hospital-based dermatology waitlists in the Hamilton/Ancaster area can often stretch to 6 months or longer. Our Burlington clinic offers an immediate alternative, providing high-quality, physician-led care just a 15–20 minute drive away via the Hwy 403. We prioritize prompt scheduling to give you peace of mind sooner.

BTL EMSELLA is a new service now being offered here, and if you are someone like me who has lived her life with too many bathroom breaks, I would recommend giving this treatment a try. I have dealt with a sensitive bladder for most of my life, and to say the least, this has been inconvenient. I was getting up at least once a night and whenever I was out looking for the closest washroom. When I heard about this treatment being offered, I decided to give it a try. Six sessions over 3 weeks. Nothing invasive or painful. My experience so far has been liberating in that I am no longer having an interrupted sleep and can wander the mall for a few hours before scoping out the nearest washroom. In my opinion this has been totally worth it.
